ABOUT JBCREATES

Jonathan Bertsch is the ‘JB’ behind JB Creates, a full-service storytelling agency focused on schools and social change organizations.

Following an 18-year career in public education, Jonathan started JB Creates, to help tell the stories of students, families and educators.  Using an intimate approach that elevates the voices of those on the front lines of the work, Jonathan’s storytelling is designed to elicit an emotional response that leads to action and new ways of seeing.

As the son of an elementary school principal, Jonathan grew up spending a lot of extra time at school.  This love of school continued through his career in public education where he worked as a teacher and administrator.  His familiarity with school and classroom culture allows him to operate seamlessly in schools without disrupting life for students, teachers and administrators.

Jonathan earned a B.A. from the University of Virginia and an M.Ed. In Education Policy from the Harvard Graduate School of Education.  He lives in New Orleans with his wife and three children and is a fledgling ultrarunner, having completed 100-kilometer and 100-mile trail races.

MY APPROACH

People connect most deeply with stories about people. My goal is to connect your viewers with the unique experiences and point of view of someone in your school or organization.

MY PROCESS

Each project is different, but general follows the steps below to ensure a final video that meets your needs.

  1. Let’s talk! Let’s set some time to talk in person so I can better understand your needs and goals.

  2. The proposal - Based on our conversations, I’ll create a proposal with a concept and approach of how we’ll tell your story. When you accept, then it is…

  3. Time to create! - Before the camera starts rolling, we’ll create a specific vision for the look, feel and content of your story. This is when we do the heavy lifting! I’ll develop a creative brief to capture our vision for the project.

  4. Pre-production - This is when we get all of our ducks in a row to make sure we’ve worked through all of the details it takes to make a successful shoot.

  5. Production - It’s time for the cameras to roll. I’ll capture all of the footage we need to tell the story.

  6. Post-production - I’ll get to work editing your project, along with creating custom animations, selecting music tracks, audio and color correction and all of the other final touches that will make your story shine. We’ll work through a collaborative editing process to fine tune it all.

  7. Delivery - You get a final, polished version of the video and we send it out to change the world.
